Dogwood Park
Features
Dogwood Park is a 44.22-acre athletic park and forest preserve with something for everyone. Enjoy a variety of sports fields and courts, two sheltered pavilions with picnic tables for a relaxed lunch, and two unique playgrounds where kids can burn off energy while you fire up the nearby grills. If you need a break, take a seat on one of the benches scattered throughout the park or hydrate at one of the drinking fountains.
The park features three baseball/softball fields, two of which are premier fields, including Walter Johnson Field, named after one of the most accomplished pitchers of all time. Johnson played for the Washington Senators from 1907 to 1927. A statue of Johnson, placed in a replica ballfield, stands as the centerpiece of the park, along with an interpretive sign detailing his life and career. The two premier baseball fields receive a high level of maintenance, are completely fenced and locked, and are primarily used for league play. They are available for permitted use by individuals or organizations only when city-sponsored leagues, activities, or events are not scheduled. Visit the Premier Field Permits page to learn more about reserving a premier field.

If you’re looking for other ways to stay active, the park has you covered with three lighted tennis courts (complete with pickleball lines—just bring your own net!), three lighted basketball courts, a sand volleyball court, and batting cages.
Dogs are welcome on leash, and there are dog waste stations to keep things clean. Explore the nature trails through the forest or venture to the east side of the park, where Cabin John Creek flows along Cabin John Parkway.
Dogwood Park offers plenty of parking, but if you prefer to stretch your legs, it’s easy to get there on foot, too! You can walk in from the south via Grand Oak Way, from the east at the intersection of Cabin John Parkway and West Edmonston Drive, or from the west along New Mark Esplanade at the south end of the New Mark Commons neighborhood.
Planning an event? Visit the Rent a Park Pavilion page to learn more about reserving the pavilion. Note that restrooms are available only with a permit.
